POLICE BUST ALLEGED COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY SYNDICATE.
Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested four suspected members of a counterfeit currency syndicate and recovered 1,600 fake United States dollar notes during an intelligence-led operation in Asaba.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday.
According to Edafe, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched a surveillance operation on June 9, 2026, following credible intelligence about a five-man gang allegedly involved in defrauding members of the public with counterfeit US dollar bills.
The suspects were reportedly operating with a red, unregistered Mercedes-Benz GLK SUV.
FOUR SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN ASABA.
The operation led to the arrest of four suspects identified as Joshua Nwaosa, Daniel Arhewe, Prince Chukwuma and John Egwuba along Nnebisi Road in Asaba.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to operating from a hideout within the state capital.
Acting on the information obtained, police operatives conducted a follow-up raid on the location.
COUNTERFEIT DOLLARS, MILITARY CAMOUFLAGE RECOVERED.
During the search of the hideout, officers recovered 1,600 counterfeit United States dollar notes and military camouflage concealed within the premises.
The police said investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the syndicate’s activities and identify other members connected to the operation.
TWO WOMEN ARRESTED OVER SUSPECTED DRUG DISTRIBUTION.
In a separate operation carried out on Tuesday at about 11:15 a.m., operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit stormed Owaliru and Alihame communities in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State.
The operation resulted in the arrest of two female suspects identified as Ifeoma Egbule, 36, and Anayeokwu Florence, 51.
POLICE RECOVER SUSPECTED ILLICIT SUBSTANCES.
According to the police, the suspects were found in possession of large quantities of suspected illicit substances, including GH Gold, Colorado, Cannabis and Canadian Loud.
The substances were recovered and taken into police custody alongside the suspects.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the women were actively involved in the distribution of the prohibited substances within the communities.
The police added that efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the drug distribution network.
COMMISSIONER OF POLICE COMMENDS OPERATIVES.
Reacting to the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the officers involved for their professionalism, dedication and commitment to duty.
He reaffirmed the command’s determination to sustain intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks across the state.
The police boss also assured residents that the command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property throughout Delta State.
